After the Flood All the Colors Came Out:

All that was left between them
was the gospel salt of their sweat
as they carried each other from the rubble to the street
where each night they carried the piano
to be played by a new refugee.

Here is just a small collection of kindness I witnessed around New York the day after the hurricane. From extra bike mechanics in SoHo, to chefs serving up free steaks on the sidewalk, it was really comforting to see so many people doing good things for strangers.

Sandy Endings

Sandy Beginnings.

Sunday morning fog before the storm.

An explosion of a ConEd transformer could be seen throughout Manhattan.

The West Side Highway flooded to such an extent there were cabs floating by my apartment.

Lights out for all of lower Manhattan from 39th street to Battery Park.

Explosions in Brooklyn seen from Hell's Kitchen.

Trader Joe's shelves two days before Sandy came to town.
